Question 1: How do I translate my Cyrillic (unicode) address in ASCII so it can be used on all platforms?
In order for a domain to be used on the Internet, it is necessary to be converted into so-called. punycode. Punycode allows you to encode the name of your Cyrillic domain in an ASCII form that contains only characters from the English alphabet, numbers 0-9 and dash (-). To translate the domain name from Unicode to ASCII, a large number of online converters / applications are used. This way of coding national domain names is necessary for them to be used and tuned through the DNS systems. The link for online punycode converter is: http://www.punycoder.com/
On this link on the left side type the Cyrillic domain name, then click on Convert to Punycode, and shortly after you’ll have the Punycode name on the right side of the window.
For example, the domain "mkhost.mkd" encoded with Punycode is: xn - j1adhmfp.xn - d1alf, where xn-- is the prefix denoting Punycode and d1alf is actually the Cyrillic suffix "mkd".
Question 2: How do I add a Cyrillic domain as a parked / addon domain to my hosting?
The procedure for adding Parked / Addon Domain is the same as in Latin domains, only when entering the domain name its Punycode variant is entered. This means that the name of the Cyrillic domain is first converted to Punycode, and then the received entry is entered as a Parked / Addon domain.
Instructions: Log in to your cPanel account -> Domains -> Parked Domain / Addon Domain -> In the Add a New Domain section, the name of the Cyrillic domain converted in Punycode is entered.
Question 3: Do I need to write www in front of the name of the Cyrillic domain when searching?
You won’t make a mistake even if you write www before the name of the Cyrillic domain. Technically speaking, it is not necessary to write www at the website address. Even without www in front of the address, the domain will be found.
Question 4: Why do I need another Internet domain and am I obligated to use it?
One of the main reasons for using a Cyrillic domain is protecting and promoting the national letter. Most of the countries in the world already have their own IDN national domains.
No one is obligated to use a Cyrillic domain, it is the freedom of choice of the user.
Question 5: Why when I write the Cyrillic address in the browser, it immediately converts it into strange characters?
IDN domains (including the .mkd domain) are still in the testing phase at a global level, so some browsers should be additionally set up. One of them is Google Chrome, where you need to add the language as follows. In the Customize and Control section of Google Chrome (a button located at the top right corner just below the X button where the browser closes), click Settings -> Show Advance settings ... -> Language and input settings -> Add - -> Choose Macedonian -> Done.
Question 6: Can I create a Latin email address (a username in Latin) with a Cyrillic suffix of the domain (example: username@име-на-домен.мкд)?
Yes, you can freely create such e-mail addresses. The procedure for creating e-mail addresses with .мкд Cyrillic domain is the same as for creating the basics of e-mail addresses with a Latin domain.
To create e-mail addresses with a Cyrillic domain, you will first need to register and host the domain as a main domain / subdomain / parked domain or an addon domain to a specific hosting space. Then that same Cyrillic domain should be set as a parked / addon / subdomain in the manner as described above in "Question 2: How to add a Cyrillic Domain as a Parked / Addon Domain"?
(Instructions: Log in to your cPanel account -> Mail -> Email Accounts -> In the Email section type the Latin username and generate the password, at the end click Generate Account).
Question 7: Can I create a Cyrillic e-mail address with a Cyrillic suffix of the domain (for example: корисничко-име@име-на-домен.мкд)?
This is not yet possible. The username before @име-на-домен.мкд must be in Latin.
Question 8: Can the .mkd domain websites display content in Latin or other letters?
The domain and content of the website are not dependent on the domain’s name. Just as so far, the .mk domain pages have content in different letters / languages, the same applies to Cyrillic domains. What is now an additional option is, the .mk domain website to open the web site in Latin, and the Cyrillic (.мкд) domain displays the content of the same page only in Cyrillic, if it is the user's wish.
